Terrorist attack in Kokrajhar, Assam

Twenty civilians have been killed in terrorist attack at a weekly market at Balajan Tinali, Kokrajhar, 220 km from Guwahati, Assam.

One terrorist is also killed by security forces after gun battle of about 20 minutes. Security forces have also recovered an AK-47 from the killed terrorist. According to sources, 3-4 terrorists managed to escape. One of the terrorists threw a hand grenade.  Security forces are searching for rest of terrorist with tracker dogs and other equipment.

National Democratic Front of Bodoland is campaigning more than decades for a separate homeland for ethnic Bodo people. The police have blamed NDFB for this terrorist attack.

Chief Minister of Sarbananda Sonowal condemned the killings and said, “whoever is responsible for this won’t be spared. Our policy is zero tolerance for terrorism.” Home Minister Kiren Rijiju also said, “it is very unfortunate because peace had actually returned to entire Bodoland area in Assam”

After terrorist attack, CM Sarabananda Sonowal has spoken with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, news agency ANI reported.
